Clubbing - Another (fri)day, another dance

Posted 06/08/2005 03:07:33 am by James McNeil

Was going to stay in until I received an MMS from Alex down at The Party Bar and I got my DF5N blue stripy shirt and white jeans on and headed out - sober of course, I tend to go out sober more often than having a drink.

I started off at Pipers but just couldn't get into it, part of that might have been that Cokey, Jackie & Tania were out and the place was only about half full. So I went down to the Party Bar to meet up with Alex and the gang, where Alex decided to pick me up and shake me like a rag doll for drunken reasons known only to him - it's times like that I loathe being 5' 3"!!

Once my neck recovered I managed to get more into it - powered by red bull of course - danced mostly in the club side and a very attractive blonde girl who was flirting and dancing up against a few of the men around her came up close for a few entertaining seconds and put her arms round my shoulders teasingly before going back to the other guys. A mini confidence booster if nothing else

The football season starts in exactly 12 hours, should I drive or take the train?...

Badminton - Got the badminton bug back

Posted 03/08/2005 11:19:02 pm by James McNeil

Wednesday night's badders at the Folkestone leisure centre was a good one despite only about 12 people turning up.. well I guess it is the "closed" season for badders.

The best news was that I didn't injure myself and played almost non-stop which was good exercise as well as fun - I had already worked out at home with half an hour on the bike and about 15/20 minutes with the dumbbells and barbell weights, so I was in a fantastic mood by the end of the badminton.

Oh, and I won more games than I lost, my form taking an upturn to match my improved state of mind

Clubbing - Some girl nicked my glowstick!

Posted 31/07/2005 02:52:29 pm by James McNeil

Having been uncertain if I wanted to go out this weekend, I decided to go with the gang to the nearly fully refitted Indigo in Folkestone.

Janine seemed to be on a downer and a little upset but I don't know why.

Me? I had a good night and kept pestering Alex and Soph to join me on the dance floor, but still didn't manage to pluck up the courage to be the first one on the floor!

They were giving out glowsticks at the DJ booth again tonight and I managed to get one for the first time!

Once we got on the dance floor, I hardly left it except to get a drink of water as it was quite hot and packed, which made a nice change from recent months where Indigo had been going downhill prior to the refit. The bouncers on the door are even beginning to stop people go in if they are not dressed smartly which is a good sign, telling a guy in T-Shirt and trainers behind us in the queue that they "are trying to up the profile of our customers".

The dancefloor got too full for me later in the evening and they were playing a long R&B set which I didn't much enjoy compared to the dance music of earlier so I spent the rest of the evening on the edge of the dancefloor and on the raised area in front of the DJ stand where the podiums used to be.

Around 1am, an attractive blonde girl approached me and told me in no uncertain terms "give me your glowstick" and I told her that she could get them free from the DJ, she went off with a parting warning, "all right, but if he's run out I'm coming back for yours" and she did!

After a couple of minutes playing I relented and gave up my glowstick as she was the only one of her group of friends not to have one and she went back to her friends seemingly pleased with her capture.

One of her darker haired friends then came over and playfully whipped me on the bum with her glow necklace a few times, wasn't sure what to do so I just grinned and carried on dancing in my "unique" way (i.e. I can't dance!). Nice to get some attention from someone who was just my type

Watford - On the eve of the season

Posted 05/08/2005 04:49:52 pm by James McNeil

Watford have plenty of young players with good potential, unfortunately that's about all we have

Richard Lee is already a first team regular in goal at 22, although there are rumours he could be off to Blackburn to join our former goalkeeping coach Kevin Hitchcock, fueled by signing Ben Foster on loan.

Anthony McNamee has been around for a couple of years but this is his make or break season and I feel he'll be spectacular.. whether that's a spectacular success or failure remains to be seen.

Then there's the central midfield duo of Al Bangura and Toumani Diagaouraga (try making a chant of that one!) who look to be fast tracked to the starting XI this season almost straight from the Academy.

Adrian Boothroyd has put his faith in youth and three strikers who played for relegated teams last year.. Predicition of 24th look right on paper but the Hornets are certainly an unknown quantity this season!

Although having signed Darius Henderson from Gillingham and Clarke Carlisle from Leeds in the last 24 hours, I'm feeling a little more optimistic now!
